August 18, 2020
Dear parents, staff and students:
Calamus-Wheatland will begin the school year on Monday, August 24, in a normal schedule with in-person learning. We are asking that those parents who are committing to EdGenuity, the on-line option, please notify the school no later than Thursday, August 20, 2020. Masks are strongly encouraged and expected when social distancing can’t be met.
Social Distancing and Masks: Mandating or Encouraging?
Face Covering
All staff and students are encouraged to wear face coverings where social distancing is not possible or unless otherwise directed by a supervising adult.
A reusable cloth face covering will be provided to each and every PreK-12 student. Students are welcome to purchase and use their own. A face covering includes a disposable or cloth mask, gaiter or face shield.
We are also honoring the Department Of Education’s guidance that came out on reopening schools on June 25, 2020.
“Mask encouraged out of respect for your health and others.”
We know that students and staff cannot wear a face covering for an entire school day. We also know that there are times where wearing a face covering is not recommended. Some of those would include PE, recess, lunch, band/choir etc. We also know that some students will have health issues and not be able to wear a mask and we will work with them directly. When social distancing is not possible, we will expect students and staff to wear a mask.
The CDC recognizes that wearing masks may not be possible in every situation or for some people. If you have questions please communicate directly with the building principal or myself.
Again, if you have specific questions, please contact me at school.
Looking forward to a successful school year.
Sincerely,
Lonnie A. Luepker
