If you would like to vote before election day on Tuesday, November 5, you can now do so through your county auditor’s office.
In-person absentee voting is available weekdays during regular business hours through November 4. For registered voters who reside in Clinton County, voting can be completed at 1900 N. 3rd Street in Clinton. In Scott County, voting is available at 600 W. 4th Street in Davenport.
The Clinton County Auditor's Office will also be open for absentee voting on Saturday, November 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Scott County voting will be available that same day, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A valid ID will be required to vote.
Voters who reside in the Calamus-Wheatland Community School District will consider a $7.51 million general obligation bond referendum. This will appear as Public Measure FF and be the last item listed on the back page of ballots.
Sample ballots are available for review at https://www.calwheatbond2024.org/voting.
If the bond measure receives at least 60% voter approval, these funds would be invested at the schools in both of our communities.
At the elementary school, the needs include mechanical system and equipment upgrades for the kitchen and a renovation of the school’s commons area.
At the high school, a new secure entrance would be installed and upgrades to the building’s mechanical systems would be made. Windows, floors and fixtures would be replaced, the art room would be renovated, and improvements would be made to the stage area and the audio system in the gym.
A new addition with a connection corridor at the high school would also be constructed, providing our students with new resources and classroom space to prepare them for careers in the skilled trades.
An approved bond measure would result in a tax impact of $2.70 per year on every $1,000 of taxable property value—not assessed value. For a home worth $150,000, this would amount to an additional $14.55 per month (or $174.59 annually).
The annual tax impact for agricultural property in Clinton County would be $3.87 per acre, based on the average assessed value of $1,996 per acre. In Scott County, the impact would be $4.30 per acre, based on an average assessed value of $2,222.
More information about the bond referendum, architect renderings, and answers to frequently asked questions are available at www.calwheatbond2024.org. The district is also holding a final community meeting on Tuesday, October 22, at the high school, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
If you are unable to attend the community meeting and still have questions, please feel free to contact me by email or by calling 563-370-4032. We appreciate all the valuable feedback that has been provided by residents throughout this process, and we want to make sure everyone has a chance to make their voices heard.
Thank you for your consideration of the referendum on the November ballot and for all the support you provide our schools and the students we serve!
Sincerely,
Shane Knoche
