Calamus-Wheatland CSD Seeks Input via Survey for Facility Planning
Feedback from the district’s residents will guide school improvement planning
WHEATLAND, IOWA — The Calamus-Wheatland Community School District is asking its residents to complete a survey that will help guide the School Board and administration in planning for potential facility improvements.
The anonymous survey will be available online at http://www.calwheatsurvey.org and requires approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
“Much time and effort has been devoted in recent years studying the facility challenges that students and staff face at our schools in both communities,” said Superintendent Lonnie Luepker. “We encourage all our residents to make their voices heard as the School Board and administration continue to evaluate possible solutions.”
In March 2023, a bond issue fell short of receiving the voter approval required for Calamus-Wheatland CSD to move forward with improvement projects at its two campuses. Since then, the district has continued to study its facilities needs. This process has included consultation with architects and engineers, along with the formation of a facility review task force that includes community members.
Among the needs at the high school campus in Wheatland are the lack of a secure entry, an outdated Ag Building with aging equipment that is not connected to the building, undersized classrooms, poor circulation throughout the building, and crowded hallways and stairwells.
Facility needs that have been identified at the elementary school in Calamus include upgrades to the kitchen’s mechanical systems and equipment, and an outdated commons area.
The online survey will remain available from May 29 to June 13. Calamus-Wheatland CSD residents who prefer a paper survey can get one at the district office, located at 110 E. Park Road in Wheatland.
